Body and Extremity
Cosmetic Surgery |
The Division
of Plastic Surgery provides the latest, most effective and
safest treatment for body and extremity cosmetic surgery.
We believe that the optimal care of the cosmetic surgery patient
entails offering a variety of individually tailored procedures
to match a patients anatomy, desires and lifestyle.
The Plastic Surgeons at Penn not only perform cosmetic body
contouring surgery in a safe and effective manner, but are
asked to teach other physicians these procedures. In addition,
we are actively developing and researching new techniques
for breast augmentation, liposuction and fat metabolism.
Liposuction
Liposuction, the most commonly
performed cosmetic procedure, is surgery to remove localized
collections of fatty tissue. The usual areas of the body for
liposuction are the legs, buttocks, abdomen, back, arms, face
and neck.. The best candidates for liposuction have localized
extra fat in specific areas and possess good skin tone. Liposuction
is an effective body contouring technique, but is not a treatment
for weight loss or obesity. New
advances in liposuction include the tumescent technique, superficial
liposculpting and ultrasound-assisted lipoplasty. The Plastic
Surgeon may utilize one technique or a combination of techniques
depending on the patients specific needs. Liposuction
is usually performed as an outpatient procedure.
